Quickstart tutorial 4-How to update task settings for simulations
Introduction
You can update settings for specific tasks within a process without affecting the rest of the tasks and elements within the simulation.
You have already learned how to update your simulation preferences, snapshot settings, and process settings. But you can also modify the input for the individual tasks and elements within a larger process. If you want to run "what if" scenarios on the costs or performance of just one or two tasks within the larger process, you can adjust those specific tasks' settings, and leave the rest of the process as is.
In the Loan Application (To Be) process, you will assign a different processing cost for the Review Loan Application task. Previously you set the processing cost of this task, along with the cost for all other activities in the process, by updating the preferences. You will now update the settings for this one task.
You could update an individual task's settings in the same manner as you updated the process settings in the last exercise; that is, by clicking the task in the diagram and then using the Attributes view to adjust your settings. However, there is a way to see and update your individual tasks' attributes in a convenient table format.
How to update task settings for simulations
To set a simulation attribute for a specific task, complete the following steps:
By updating this specific task setting, you have indicated that the Review Loan Application task will cost US$5.00 to complete. All the other activities in the process will continue to cost $1.50 to complete, as per the simulation preference that you set earlier in the module.
At this point in the module, you have updated simulation preferences, snapshot settings, and process and task settings. You are now ready to run your simulation for the second time, and then analyze the results.
