How to update process settings for simulations

Quickstart tutorial 4-How to update process settings for simulations

Introduction

Process settings define conditions and behaviors for a process as a whole during a simulation run. You can update settings for a specific process simulation without overriding your preferences or snapshot settings.

You might update process settings if you want to run a simulation with specific input that you do not want to carry over to any other simulation. For the Loan Application (To Be) process, you will specify the number of loan applications that you are going to send through the process.

How to update process settings for simulations

To update your process settings, complete the following steps:

  1. Ensure that the simulation that you created in the last exercise is open in the Simulation editor. If it is not open, double-click the simulation profile in the Project Tree.
  2. In the Attributes view, click the Inputs tab. Important: You must be sure that no element (that is, task, decision, merge, or terminate node) is selected in the simulation diagram. If an element is selected, the settings displayed in the Attributes view will apply only to that element. To select the process as a whole, rather than a specific element, click anywhere in the diagram other than on an element.
  3. In the Token creation settings table, click the row that displays the input. The token creation settings for the process are displayed.
  4. In the Total number of tokens field, click Edit. A window opens.
  5. In the Generate a specific number field, type 15. Click OK. This value indicates that you are going to send 15 loan applications through the process.

Your settings should now look like those in the following image:

The process setting that you have just updated will only apply to the current simulation profile. If you create a new simulation profile, it will inherit the preferences and snapshot settings that you updated earlier, but not the process setting—that is, 15 loan applications—that you changed for the current simulation.

You can also update settings for specific elements within the simulation without affecting the rest of the elements in the process. Next, you will update the settings for a specific Loan Application task.
