How to create a business item instance

Introduction

A business item instance is a specific occurrence or example of a business item. A business item instance can be used as sample data for business items within simulations.

When you create an instance of one of your business items, that instance will inherit all of the attributes that you defined for the business item. You then have the option of adding attribute values for that specific instance.

At Quickstart Finance, both business and personal loans are available. In this exercise, you will create a business item instance to represent the loan application of a long-time banking customer, Edward Shore.

How to create a business item instance

To create a business item instance, complete the following steps below:

Step 1

In the Project Tree, right-click the Loans data catalog and select New > Business Item Instance.

Step 2

  1. In the Associated business item menu, select Application. By making this selection, you are indicating that you are creating an instance of the Application business item.
  2. In the Name of new business item instance field, type Application - Edward Shore.
  3. In the Description of new business item instance field, type Application for a personal loan from Mr. Edward Shore.
  4. Click Finish.

Step 3

The new business item instance (i.e Application - Edward Shore) is created in the Project Tree and opens in the definition editor, similar to the following image on the right column.

The new Application - Edward Shore business item instance contains the attributes that you defined for the Application business item (which in turn contained the attributes that you defined in the Business Document business item template). To complete your business item instance, you will provide values for each of the instance attributes.
