How to add attributes to a business item instance

Quickstart tutorial 2-How to add attributes to a business item instance

How to add attributes to a business item instance

Introduction

Attribute values define the characteristics of specific business item instances.

Each instance of a business item can contain specific values for the attributes that you have already defined. These values enable you to work on and make decisions about the individual instance. For example, a specific employee might fill out a Benefit Claim form for a company's Human Resources department. That specific form is a business item instance. Based on the business item Benefit Claim Form, you could create a business item instance called Michael Smith's Claim Form. That form would have all the attributes that you defined, and would contain specific values pertaining only to Michael Smith.

How to add attributes to a business item instance

You have already created the Application - Edward Shore business item instance, and the instance contains the attributes that you have defined. Now you need to give values to those attributes. To add attribute values, complete the following steps below.

Step 1

  1. If it is not already open, double-click the Application - Edward Shore business item instance to open it.
  2. Click the Attributes tab
  3. In the Business Item Attributes table, click the First Value field for the Document Number attribute. (Note that depending on your screen size and settings, you might have to scroll horizontally to see this column.)
  4. Type the following value: 10726. This is the document identification number. When you created the Business Document business item template, you designated the Document Number attribute type as Integer, so this value can only contain numbers.
  5. In the Date and Time Created row, click the First Value field. Click the button to open the DateTime calendar and select a date.
  6. Using the same method that you used to add the first two attribute values, add the following values for the remaining attributes:
    Name First Value
    Amount Requested 8000
    Customer Name Edward Albert Shore
    Has Current Loan False
  7. When you have finished adding the attributes, click File > Save to save the business item instance.
