How to add attributes to a business item template
Introduction
Business item templates are categories used to model groups of business items that share common properties.
A business or organization can have many different business items in its processes. A larger organization might have hundreds or even thousands of business items that it needs to account for in its process models. Many of these business items might share common characteristics or attributes, as well as contain attributes that are unique. A business item template enables you to create a set of attributes once, and then apply those attributes to as many business items as you require. At Quickstart Finance, all documents created for business purposes contain certain common characteristics. Rather than add those characteristics to each type of document, you will use a business item template.
Step 1
- Double-click the Business Document template in the Project Tree to open the definition editor.
- Click the Attributes tab
- Click Add at the bottom of the attributes table to add a new attribute.
- Click the Name field and type Document Number.
- Click the Type field and click the
icon to select a type:
- Click the Basic type radio button.
- From the menu, select Integer. An Integer type can contain only numbers. If you wanted your document numbers to contain both letters and numbers, you would choose Text as the attribute type.
- Click OK. You will receive a message warning that values for this attribute in instances of the template will be affected if you change the type. Click OK.
- Click Add at the bottom of the attributes table to add a new attribute.
- Click the Name field and type Date and Time Created.
- Click the Type field and click the
icon to select a type:
- Click the Basic type radio button.
- From the menu, select DateTime. The DateTime type requires a date and time value, indicating the date and time when the business document is created.
- Click OK.
- When you have finished entering attributes, click to save the Business Document business item template.
You have now created a reusable business item template that should look like the one in the following image on the right.
