Introduction
A project is the top-level container in your Project Tree, and holds your various catalogs, resources, business items, organizations, and other modeling elements.
Before you can begin creating your resources and building your process model, you must first set up your project. You can choose how you want to organize your project, and the Project Tree will display the project structure that you impose. In a large company, you might want to set up a different project for the various divisions or departments that make up the company organization (remembering that you can only reuse resources and global elements that are in the same project).
You can create your project using either of the following methods:
- Start Process Modeling wizard method
- Pop-up menu method
How to create a project
- Start WBModeler
- Enter the Workspace location
- Click OK
- The Welcome window is displayed (see below)
Close Welcome screen
- Close the Welcome screen by clicking on X.
- The Start Process Modeling window is displayed (see below).
Select method to use
Select which method to use:- Start Process Modeling wizard method
When you use the wizard, the tool sets up default catalogs in addition to the Predefined elements.
- Pop-up menu method
When you use the pop-up menu method, only the Predefined elements is set up by the tooling.
Start Process Modeling wizard method
- Enter Project name (i.e Quickstart Finance)
- Enter Process catalog name (i.e Processes)
- Enter Business process name (Loan Application (As Is))
- Click Next
Step 2
- Enter Data catalog name (i.e Business items)
- Check Create business item as required
- Enter Business item name as required (i.e Application)
- Click Next
Step 3
- Select a look for your diagrams (BPMN style or Original style)
- Select a layout (Swimlane layout or free-form layout)
- Click Finish
Step 4
A new project is created and default catalogs have been setup. You can add additional catalogs as required.
Notice that Predefined modeling elements are also setup for you.
Pop-up menu method
Step 1
If you decide not to use the Start Process Modeling wizard, Business Modeler will only setup the Predefined modeling elements . You have to create the project yourself.
To create the project, right-click in the Project Tree and select New > Business Modeling Project.
Step 2
- Enter a new project name (i.e Quickstart Finance
- Enter a process catalog name or leave the default
- Clear the Create process checkbox.
- Click Next.
Step 3
- Select a look for your diagrams (BPMN style or Original style)
- Select a layout (Swimlane layout or free-form layout)
- Click Finish
Step 4
The new Quickstart Finance project is created and displayed in the Project Tree. Your project should look like the one in the following image.
